Promoting Health Among Teens
Promoting Health Among Teens is an abstinence-based sexual health class for middle schools students. Health Educators teach the evidence-based PHAT curriculum in public, charter, and private middle schools throughout Philadelphia. Students are taught about puberty, pregnancy, STDs, decision making, and negotiation skills.
Concilio, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, is a key player in the education of families about preventable childhood diseases. By providing childhood immunization education and outreach services to families in the City of Philadelphia, Concilio promotes the healthy growth of children. Outreach activities are geared toward children from birth to two years of age who are immunization-delayed according to the KIDS Registry. The goal of the program is to return children to a medical home to receive age-appropriate immunizations.
Concilio was honored for its 20-year partnership with the Philadelphia Immunization Program, as now the sole provider for the Department of Public Health. Since 1993, Concilio’s Immunizations Outreach Program has successfully brought thousands of immunization-delayed children up-to-date with their age-appropriate vaccines.
Parenting Skills Training
Expectant and parenting caregivers receive parenting skills education in a series of classes in both English and Spanish using the Nurturing Parents Curriculum. Through training, coaching, and support services parents increase their ability to nurture healthy child development and lead healthy, productive lifestyles.
Our housing counseling program provides free, confidential housing counseling services for residents of Philadelphia. Monthly workshops are held for individuals interested in learning more about buying their first home. Individual counseling sessions are available for people interested in pre-purchase, foreclosure, credit, real estate taxes owed, and tax rebates. Our counseling is provided in both English and Spanish.
Summer Youth Employment
The Summer YouthWorks Program, in collaboration with PYN, employs Philadelphia youth for six weeks during the summer. Summer youth workers are expected to work 20 hours a week for six weeks. Each year students complete a service-learning project around a specific theme. The program is designed to give high school students real work experience while enhancing community involvement and academic achievement. Students also participate in skills development activities, workshops, and field trips in addition to their service-learning project.
Concilio prides itself on its bi-lingual, bi-cultural, non-judgmental, and confidential adoption services. Concilio is committed to providing great quality services and bares a vast knowledge of all aspects of the adoption process. Concilio possesses great integrity, dignity, and most of all, it’s compassionate, friendly, and supportive staff is available to answer all of your questions and support you through the adoption process.
Post Permanency Services
Concilio offers advocacy, support groups, and respite services free to any adoptive family in need at any time in the youth’s life.
Sometimes unfortunate circumstances cause a child to be removed from his/her home and placed in Foster Care. Concilio recruits foster parents with warm hearts and loving homes to provide temporary care to foster children. A select team of dedicated foster care case managers strive to reunite them with their natural families or facilitate adoption.
After –school and Summer programs for youth
Concilio operates after-school programming during the school year for middle and high school students, in collaboration with PHMC and the Department of Human Services, and Summer Youth Employment for high school students’ paid work experience in the summer, in collaboration with Philadelphia Youth Network. Throughout the year youth develop critical thinking and life skills through experiential and service learning activities, as well as daily recreation, arts, and homework help and tutoring.
